A company who designs and manufactures Ink Jet Printing equipment for Industrial printing applications came to us with a need for an encoder to integrate into their system. These particular Ink Jet Printing systems are fitted to conveyors or other material handling systems and are used to mark part numbers, lot numbers, and other order information automatically as the box passes by. The encoder provides the master timing for the machine, keeping track of the position of the carton to be marked and the speed its moving at.

These systems will be installed in many different industrial environments so the heavy duty DGS20 was selected. The main contaminants to protect against were dust and ink. The method of coupling to the load will vary by installation. Some will use a measuring wheel, others will couple the encoder to a roller.
